NEED FOR THE PROJECT
85% of the Coffee in Wayanad is grown by Small & Marginal Farmers.
The Robusta Coffee grown by most of them is dried and sold as a commodity with limited margins.
As Individual farmers, the ability to make capital investment in value addition, market intelligence, marketing and branding is limited.
WHAT THE PROJECT PROPOSES
The project proposes aggregation of sustainably produced coffee in the region using technology for traceability, quality control and payment.
The aggregated coffee will be processed centrally to produce wet processed, cleaned and roasted coffee of standard quality.
With this aggregation and standardized processing, the Coffee produced can be branded and marketed as Malabar Kaapi™ domestically as well as exported.
